What is all the fuss about subluxations and how do they effect your body? This is the question that our Chiropractors are here to answer.
We all know that Chiropractic is a natural, holistic and hands-on approach to healthcare centred around the function of the Spine and Nervous System, but the key indicator for a Chiropractor when assessing your body is the presence of subluxations. To the majority of our patients, a subluxation is not how we would describe the aches, pains and dysfunction in our bodies, but in the normal visit process for Chiropractors, assessing and correcting subluxations is essential to helping our patients achieve their health and wellness goals.
What is a subluxation and how does it effect you?
A Subluxation is abnormal movement in a spinal joint that can potentially alter the function of not just the involved joint but also all of the associated muscles, tissues and organs. This is because a subluxation may cause interference in your nervous system and potentially interrupt the flow of information between your brain and your body. A subluxation can occur due to physical, chemical and/ or emotional stressors placed on the body during everyday life.
For example, a subluxation in the pelvis or lumbar spine may cause changes and symptoms in your legs or feet.
How do we deal with a subluxation?
Chiropractic is focused on removing Subluxations from the Spine and body.
To remove a subluxation at one or multiple locations in your body, your Chiropractor will apply the adjusting technique that is most appropriate and effective for that specific area and person. As each of our bodies are not all the same, different techniques are applied to remove the subluxation for different patients. For example, the techniques used when adjusting a newborn are different to those used when adjusting a toddler, and different again when it is an adult.
All our Chiropractors are proficient in a wide range of techniques including manual techniques such as Gonstead and Diversified, Thompson/Drop Piece as well as Sacro-Occipital technique (SOT) and Craniosacral therapy and instrument-based techniques such as Activator.
How do you know if you have any subluxations?
More than likely you probably don’t know and this is why we recommend ensuring that your health and wellness lifestyle incorporates regular check-ups with a Chiropractor.
You may occasionally, or possibly even frequently, feel discomfort through your spine or other joints, and it can be easy to put this down to just your usual lower back pain or a sore neck from sleeping ‘funny’. Now that you know how a subluxation in your body can have a flow on effect to so
